Any one know the cure for this??

2002 px 125 E start disc model.

When you apply the brakes the lights front and back dim,the fuel gauge stops working as does the speedo.

Its also had a near side indicator that has also never worked properly in eight years so wondering if it could be linked and need all new electrics.

Any advice welcome

Regards

sounds like a short. The brake pedal should be pulled back out, and check to see if the wires are getting pinched when the pedal is pressed.

After a couple of long runs with lots of braking the problems with the lights dimming appear to have now stopped??? V strange. I did notice though that when i braked the fuel gauge went down.Is the fuel gauge linked to the speedo cable in any way. having snapped a cable the other month i had a new one fitted at the garage and straight away it stopped working again.I then looked at how it was fitted and it appears to be on the outside of the disk as opposed to the inside of the damper.

Question-If its fitted like this is it wrong and would it not work in the correct manner??

Ive bought another new cable from msc with worm drive which are genuine parts so looks like its in to the garage again.

Indicators still not working at the rear appears the problem is in side the hole where the left panel pin goes in to attach panel-Any ideas.

Any advice more than welcome.

rear indicator problems are usually linked to either bad earth or a bad live feed. try cleaning the copper contact on the pin of the panel and use ome emery paper/sand paper down inside the hole where the pin fits in the frame.
Make sure the indicator bulb in the headset is working as this effects things as well.
speedo cable should have no effect on fuel gauge, only thing that may be happening is when headset top is lifted up to fit the cable you are maybe losening the multi plug on the speedo?
you can use a big screwdriver or a piece of wire through the filler cap to move the float to test if the sender is making the gauge move properly.

After 8 years finally sorted.
Earthing problem sorted. New headlight fitted as when stripped faulty.Switch on brake found to be broken and faulty rear light and brake light also now working.Indicator problem sorted with new wiring pins etc. No more hand signals.

The advice given on this site was spot on.

Many thanks
