I've got a new (re-made) Vespa Fuel Tank for a winter project - its currently in bare (oiled) steel, so I quite fancy having it done in a clear coated finish - rather than painted as per the rest of the scooter...

Anyone got any recommendations on what the best method/type of clear coating process to use on a fuel tank?

Cheers - Graham.

Get it blasted, then spend a few hours with wire brush on grinder to get the finish you want, then get it clear lacquer powder coat. Don't powder coat straight after sand blasting, it will turn out greenish.

Cheers for that Gary... Its already bare metal - so just need to give it a de-grease & a bit of a sand. :D

Not a problem I've come across !. In my experience, rust will always spider under the clear coat. Unless you use one of the specialist House of Kolor, or Alsa clear coats.

Through experience I have to agree, rust now all over my scooter, adds to the look, but Im sticking with it for another year.
