The homemade engine stand has worked out quite nicely. Its on wheels so I can move it around the garage.

The reason I took the motor out (well the excuse anyway, I just love tinkering), was that when I had the carb off and looked down the manifold I noticed a huge step to the inlet port in the cylinder (its a Mugello cylinder and manifold, you'd think they could get it closer than that).
I decided I would have to strip the top end and match the inlet and exhaust manifold at least. It also gives me a chance to check the squish and port timings.

Took the cowling off today and I've solved the mystery of the badly matched Mugello cylinder & manifold......

If you can't work it out from that pic, this one may help!

Yes, Ive got a Rapido top end with a Mugello manifold. :o

At this stage I don't know if it's a "Race" or "Classic" and what size it is!

More concerned with what crank it's got, supposed to be an AF race crank, but now who knows? :?

I think you'll be better with a rapido cylinder anyway!

I have heard the mugello clinders arent all that good in terms of performance.

I got my rapido to about the same performance level as my TS1

Yes, I'd heard mixed reviews about the Mugello kit, but I always thought my "Mugello" went quite well, now I know why.

Which Rapido have you got and what have you done to get TS1 performance?

When I get mine stripped and I find out exactly what I've got, I may have to re-evaluate which way I want to go (maybe a reed valve setup).

Cheers

The best thing you can do is get a race tour piston from mb

If you reed valve it just get a ts1 piston

The standard asso piston is just too heavy

Got my Mtech unit to fit when everything is back together. Martin at Cheselspeed was really helpful and made my long distance purchase a pleasurable experience.

Well started the strip down and it's a 225cc (70mm bore), 2 ring piston (don't know what variety) and a "Rapido Classic" (rough initial port timings Ex 168, transfer 120, haven't got down to inlet) so room for a bit of porting.
I think the squish is about 2mm (we'll have to sort that) and the head gasket is 68mm :o Is this common on a 70mm bore?
I figure if I raise the cylinder by about 1mm I'll end up with about 172 exhaust and 126 transfers, and if I do away with the head gasket (1.5mm thick) squish should be about right.

Anyway, at least the picture is becoming a bit clearer now.

A couple of pics of the bracket I made up to hold the sensor for my new SIP speedo.
I decided to "pick up" from the studs on the rear hub and I'm quite happy with how the bracket looks.
I've just got to drill and tap for a couple of grub screws and give it it's final polish and it will be finished, just hope it all works ok!
