While some of the already mentioned batteries may do what you want the linked ones are 7Ah and 4.5Ah only, standard Vespa PX battery is 9! ..........

PS, I now run a wassell 12v dc setup with the vespa battery which happily copes with the headlight as well as the spotlight.
Donnie,

The circumstances you describe seem more attributable to the Varitronic stator than the battery. First, the Varitronic has poor power output for lighting, so it struggles to charge a battery AND run the lights. In fact, many struggle to run the lights, and would therefore drain the battery as well.

Secondly, the 9Ah battery on the Vespa has to be big because it is needed to start the engine. Few Lambrettas have electric start, so a big battery is not required (hence my previous post).

Finally, the Wassell DC set-up has solved your problem because it has a decent power output: the battery has little to do with the performance of the lighting circuit but remains a useful reservoir of power and a great stabilising element of the power circuit.

..thanks for good advice so far...the battery will be used to stablize power..not to really power anything.. sip speedo/mod charger/change light/parking lights..
mounting is still a problem.. 13ltr tank.. under panel tool box will hold oil and tools..?

Aren't the lighting and charging circuits seperate though I thought? And my varitronic lighting was fine until the coils themselves got heat damaged which can happen on any of the electronics to be fair.

Just looking up the specs of it it's a 90watt output no different than the indian ones, possibly a little more in fact as I think most sil ones are 80?

my main points though are (a) unless you go wassell dc you are trickle charging a battery, the more Ah you have the greater reserve you have to run electricals directly off battery, not a problem if its only rear brake and horn due to such intermittent use, but add a headlight and power will drain from the battery faster than it can be charged.

(b) I can see why many use the dry cell / burglar alarm batterys idea, but I still don't know of anyone that's using that system and powering a headlight on top of the horn / battery.

It's a 4.2amp alarm battery. Get to Maplins to get an idea of sizes then buy of eBay at half the price. They can go any place you have room but beware fitting in a tool box In case you short out the terminals dropping something on top, guy at the club needed a re spray after a similar incident

It was for my DC conversion, only powering lights, horn and indicators
