I've got an Li150S gearbox that has the centre of the tree drilled for the clutch.
Does this mean it's the early type, and shouldn't be used on a more powerful engine ?
Or is that distinction based upon measuring across 5 teeth of 3rd [?] gear ?
thanks again

are there any other gearboxes across the range that can be miss-matched to make a better ratio,i tried this many years ago but it growled and i swapped the cut down/scrambler for a nice tv200 so cant remember what the long term was.

ah, thanks that was my next question.mickyb wrote: You cant use the early xmas tree with the later 3rd gear, you need the complete set
but you can use the SX150 39 tooth loose gearjohnd wrote:Ask "ketje" on here, he has used the third gear from an sx box with a drilled pacemaker box and has had very good results, still going strong in his TS1.
i do like the idea of the drilled tree, gotta be good for clutch action

the strong type does not have the hole in the christmas tree. the pacemaker (early) is also the same as a late 125 series 3 box which has the weaker 3rd with the hole in the tree tho i doubt you will break it unless you have a mad engine or are racing.

cheers, that's what i was thinking... it's going in a [probably about] 230cc, but nothing too mental. I only have one scoot and like to keep it on the road.jonny snatchsniffer wrote:... i doubt you will break it unless you have a mad engine or are racing.
