Mate dropped his scooter over, loss of compression.
I expected a hole in the piston, but a borescope ruled that out, so a strip down followed, and this was the result:

I am going to drop the barrel at Langcourts to see if they can fix it, price a piston and see if it all works out cheaper than a new kit.
I have heard that MB have had problems with these RT kits, but not seen any other failures on the forums, is this true??

Anyone know what piston would be best to look at as a replacement??

Shaun.

If its the piston that came with the kit could you not first speak to the dealer that supplied it ?

Same experience, expected a big hole. Bought a replacement kit before I examined the blown one.
Upon taking it apart to install the new one I found I was missing a ring peg and the ring captured the exhaust port.

Can we confirm what kit/piston we are on about on this thread?

I'm sure there are a lots of us that have experienced ring pegs failing and causing £100's of damage to barrels, etc. But before we comment can we clarify what top end set up we are asking to comment on please?

Cheers

ive seen a few pistons that have lost ring pegs which has resulted in the ring snagging on the exhaust port but I cant say ive seen any with as much piston damage as those two. :(

BGM rt And MB rt have different pistons.

Have you totally ruled out a foreign object as that's a lot of damage.

I don't think the original RT kit that MB supplied has been around for at least a couple of years so presume we're talking about the current MBgm kit here.
