was driving in heavy slow motorway traffic, GT125 with Malossi 210 kit cut out but restarted, then backfired alot and cut out, started again..... pulled into hard shoulder and saw that 2 rubber pipes had melted at the nipples - the 2 brass nipples in the photo
not the tube that carries the coolant
what would cause it to overheat so much that the pipes melted? is the thermostat goosed or is there another reason??

turns out the sensor for the temp gauge had come off, so Ive been riding it without a clue that it was overheating..... sensor wire re-connected but the gauge is going to red within a few minutes
any ideas?

Do the coolant hoses go solid when the engine is running ? If so, the head gasket has gone. There is a test for this with a chemical " sniffer ".
