Piston-Bore clearance. GS and P200
Hi all! I got two barrels in from a customer to have rebored, one for a GS160(VSB1, second over) and a P200E(first over). I also have photocopies of the original manuals for both. The wording is a bit different than lambretta and I want to make sure I've got it correct.... VSB1 clearance on assembly...

Re: series 1 150 to 175 conversion ?
Yeah, i was gonna say the ts185 route too. The series 1 barrel allows for a more milder tune than the standard short cylinder version. And you have the option of higher quality pistons. You will need a 1mm or so packer though. The wiseco pistons are solid and reasonably priced.

Re: I hate electrics !
I had the same problem on a cento recently. I went from no spark, to a bit of spark, to no spark, etc. I re-checked the points gap, making sure it was spot on, taking extra time on it(on the close side to give extra charging time for the coil) and it fired right up. I don't remember the li range bei...

Re: Running in tips
I've discussed this with a lot of dirt bike guys for years. They always say run in time is 1 hour, 1 tank of gas, or 3 start ups(cold to full temp, then back to cold). From all the two stroke theory i've read, it seems to be more a case of the rings and the piston in relation to the bore. Hard accel...

Re: porting steel barrel
I've always followed the rule(from bell's book) of 62-65% of the bore. He also says some take the width up to 71%, but that ring wear becomes unacceptable at that level. I always shoot for 65% for intake and exhaust and it always works. Appears to be safe, but probably not the maximum

Re: piston to bore clearance
I've never actually thought about it like that before, but when i bore a barrel i mic the piston(i never actually pay attention to what the measurement is), then zero the bore gauge to the mic, then hone to whatever the clearance is(normally 0.003"). Technically that would mean 0.0015" if ...

"race spec(?)" tuning advice needed(timings...cento)
Hi all! I'm building an engine for a cento(perhaps that's my first mistake!! ) and i'm a bit stumped on which way to go. I have a ton of scooterboy friends, but no one ever seems to know what the f*ck i'm talking about, so i'm hoping someone here may be able to help! I've already bored the b...

Re: Piston quality
I have used several of them. Most are in my pile of destroyed pistons. I'm not a fan of them, but they do the job. I would prefer a 2 thin ring version. They're made in italy if i remember correctly. I think they are made more to stock standards, with the transfer supports at the back of the piston,...

Re: suzuki 190 piston clearance
i'm using an outside micrometer to measure the piston at it's widest point and a dial bore gauge to measure the bore in several places throughout the bore. the barrel is on the bench. in dave webster's book he calls for 0.002-0.005" clearance, and sticky's book says that 0.006" may still b...
